Heart Foundation Walking

Large group walking

Walking for an average of 30 minutes a day can lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes by 30 to 40 per cent. Plus, walking regularly has been proven to:

  • manage weight, blood pressure and cholesterol
  • reduce your risk of developing some cancers
  • maintain your bone density, reducing your risk of osteoporosis and fractures.

A fun and social way to keep active is to join a local Heart Foundation Walking group

Heart Foundation Walking is a network of free community-based walking groups across Australia.

Groups are led by volunteer walk organisers, and they plan the walking routes, the meeting place, time and day of walks and welcome new members to the group.  Without walk organisers, Heart Foundation Walking would not exist.

Getting involved is easy.

  1. Search a walking group near you (by suburb, town or postcode).
  2. Register to join a group.
  3. Contact your walk organiser.
  4. Meet your group and start walking.

If you would like to become a volunteer walk organiser, Heart Foundation will provide training and access to your online profile where you can manage your group. You’ll get a thank you gift for signing up, ongoing communication from Heart Foundation and invitations to events and workshops. Find out more about becoming a volunteer walk organiser.
