Nutrition and Dietetics Service

The role of the dietitian is to provide individualised nutrition assessment, recommendations on dietary modification and to provide education to the patient and carer as appropriate.

Patients requiring a dietitian assessment will be referred by medical, nursing or allied health staff.  Patients and their families can also request to be seen by a dietitian.

Reasons for referral may include:

  • malnutrition
  • enteral or parenteral feeding
  • gastrointestinal diseases
  • renal disease
  • liver disease
  • cancer
  • allergies and intolerances
  • eating disorders
  • diabetes
  • cardiovascular disease and stroke.

A doctor’s referral is required for most outpatient dietitian services.

Please refer to specific outpatient services for referral criteria and contact details.
