The Psychogeriatric service is a specialist community based service which provides comprehensive assessment, specialist advice, interim care coordination, education and support for eligible clients and carers.
To be considered by the free Medicare service, the person must be:
65 years and over, or 50 years and over for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people
NB: People with younger onset cognitive impairment may be seen
experiencing complex issues related to frailty and the ageing process leading to significant functional disability that also can impact on mental well-being and
may present with moderate to severe psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD).
Referrals are triaged and processed as per clinical priorities.
Referrals from Residential Aged Care Homes (RACH) may be subject to fees.
Please contact the service in your local area to discuss the referral as there may be some local variations in referral criteria/service provision.
