No smoking means no vaping

You may have seen new ‘No smoking means no vaping’ signs popping up around Mid North Coast Local Health District facilities.

The NSW Ministry of Health initiative aims to raise awareness in the community that e-cigarette use (vaping) is banned in all smoke-free areas on NSW Health sites.

These signs are complementary to the existing ‘No smoking’ signs and will help ensure staff, patients and visitors to our facilities are not exposed to the harmful chemicals produced by vaping devices.

Mid North Coast Local Health District staff are reminded that smoking and vaping are prohibited at our hospitals and community health sites.

Port Macquarie Community Health Specialist Teams Manager Michael Rohr assisted in updating the site’s ‘No smoking’ signs, with the additional ‘No smoking means no vaping’ signs now displayed at entrances and exits to the community health buildings.

“I am pleased to see some updated signs being released by the MoH, given some difficult conversations our staff have experienced with clients believing vaping was different to smoking on our health campus grounds,” Mr Rohr said.

“As a manager and site Work Health Safety chairperson, I was quite willing to ensure the signs were placed in the appropriate areas.”

The new ‘No smoking means no vaping’ signs can be ordered from the NSW Health website and placed in areas of concern or to assist with general compliance to the no vaping requirement.
