About the North Coast Public Health Unit (NCPHU)
Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of people and our community. This work is achieved by promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing and responding to infectious diseases.
The North Coast Public Health Unit (NCPHU) services are managed and funded via Mid North Coast Local Health District and are delivered across both the Mid North Coast and Northern NSW Local Health Districts from Johns River to Tweed Heads.
The core functions of the North Coast Public Health Unit are:
- Aboriginal public/environmental health
- communicable disease surveillance and control
- environmental health, including tobacco control
- epidemiology and health informatics
- HIV and related programs
- immunisation including the school-based immunisation program
- public health aspects of bio-preparedness
- public health disaster management
- refugee health
- tuberculosis prevention and control.
