Wauchope bowlers’ generous gift supports stroke patients
Dec 20, 2024Wauchope Bowling Club has continued its longstanding tradition of supporting Wauchope District Memorial Hospital by donating $1,000 to the Rehabilitation Unit.
The funds, raised through the club’s unique “Wrong Bias” fines and contributions, will assist the hospital in purchasing comfortable chairs for patients.
Jennifer Rudd, Director of Nursing and Executive Officer at Wauchope District Memorial Hospital, expressed her gratitude for the club’s ongoing generosity.
“The support we receive from Wauchope Bowling Club means so much to our hospital and our patients. Their contributions over many years help us provide high-quality care, and we’re incredibly thankful,” Ms Rudd said.
The “Wrong Bias” fundraiser, which involves fining bowlers who accidentally deliver their bowls in the wrong direction, has been a popular and light-hearted tradition at the club for more than a decade.
Club President Rick Simpson said presenting the donation to the hospital is always a rewarding moment for members.
“This fundraiser has become a cherished part of our club’s culture. While it starts with a gold coin fine for a wrong bias, many of our bowlers and Wauchope Country Club members give generously to show their appreciation for the vital work our hospital does,” Mr Simpson said.
“The hospital and the community continue to benefit from the club’s goodwill, which reflects the strong bond between the club and the Wauchope community.”
