The winners of the Your Health Link National Photographic Competition have been announced, selected from more than 1,800 entries received nationwide.

An initiative of the Mid North Coast Local Health District, the photo competition offered prizes in the categories of Open, Mobile, Primary School and High School.

The coveted Open Category was won by Lucia Staykov for her image ‘My family self-portrait in lockdown’ which she described as depicting how her family’s world had been turned upside down during COVID-19 lockdown.

Margaret Edwards won the Mobile Category for her photograph ‘Window visit to my ageing mum’, Toby Schuback received the High School winner’s trophy for ‘Suffero’ and Sonya Clarke took out the Primary School award for her photograph ‘Isolate together, family matters’.

The Competition also included a People’s Choice Award via the Your Health Link Facebook page, with Aurelia Susilo’s winning image ‘The virtue of togetherness’ recording the most votes. Brigitte Halliwell won the Cover Photo Award for her image ‘Lockdown’.

In keeping with this year’s theme ‘We’re all in this together, keeping safe and healthy during the pandemic’, a COVID-19 Safety Ambassador Award was presented in the primary and high school categories.

The COVID-19 Safety Ambassador winner for Primary School was Patrick McCarthy for his image ‘Even my littlest neighbours know how to do a COVID-safe greeting’ while Ethan Adia picked up the High School award for his photo ‘Connected through distance’.

The competition provided a platform for people to express their concept of our `new normal’ of working from home, physically distancing, and caring for each other from afar.

Competition organiser and Your Health Link Program Manager Carolyn Guichard said the outstanding standard of photos submitted this year had a documentary feel to them.

“The judges were impressed with the unique and creative images that showed how the world has changed due to the global pandemic and ways we’ve adapted,” she said.
