Wauchope honours its team of caring, professional nurses

May 09, 2024

Wauchope District Memorial Hospital celebrated International Nurses Day with a morning tea.

Executive Officer/Director of Nursing Wayne Southern shared his appreciation for the compassionate, kind and professional work that nurses do, stating it was a privilege to work alongside such remarkable and hardworking people.

Wauchope welcomed District Director of Nursing and Midwifery Caz Heise to be part of the celebration.

She delivered an insight into this year’s themes for International Nurses Day, “Our nurses, Our future: the economic power of care”, and for International Midwives Day, “Sustainable Midwifery: Caring for Tomorrow’s World”, as well as acknowledging nurses for their dedication to care and their communities.

The ‘Most Appreciated Nurse as Selected by Peers’ Award was awarded to perioperative nurse Amanda Barnes.  Amanda unfortunately was off-site training and not present to accept her award in person, so the award was accepted by her Nurse Unit Manager Melissa Court, on her behalf.

Endorsed Enrolled Nurse Lisa Tyrrell from the Palliative Care Unit received the ‘Highly Commended as Selected by Peers’ Award.

Also included in the activities was The Price is Right competition – a fun way to raise awareness of the cost of medical products – and Healing Touch sessions were provided by Susan Ashton.
