Staff hop to it for a divine rocky road experience at Kempsey

Mar 28, 2024

The only rocky road that matters, the chocolate and Marshmallow variety, took centre stage at Kempsey District Hospital yesterday for The Great Easter Rocky Road Bake Off.

Who knew there was more than one type of rocky road?

Apparently, Google does, and so KDH staff set about creating their versions of the popular slice, bringing in qualified judges to find two outstanding contestants among a field of 13 quality submissions.

Executive Assistant Jenny Clarke said judgement day proved to be an outstanding success, and thanked everyone who took part, including the entrants, guest judges and taste testers.

The event also saw a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny, courtesy of Bunnings Kempsey, who was accompanied by his helper, Bella.

In the end, there could only be two winners. Judges Lucille, Jane, Bella and the Easter Bunny awarded Best Tradition award to No. 6, created by Jo Cooper, and Best Modern Version to No. 12, baked by Cassie Burkle.

After tallying up the People’s Choice votes (and having the EO do a recount for transparency – no conflicts of interest here…), the entrant with the most votes was No. 4 Lauren Clarke, closely followed by No. 11 Toni Freeman.

The day also raised $213.30.
