Sepsis education escape rooms a hit at Port and Coffs hospitals

Sep 17, 2024

In celebration of World Sepsis Day, the Clinical Education and Simulation Team at Port Macquarie Base and Coffs Harbour Hospitals hosted innovative sepsis education escape rooms last week.

Designed to raise awareness about the life-threatening condition, the event drew enthusiastic participation from medical and nursing staff, who worked together to solve sepsis-related puzzles under time pressure.

A total of 27 teams participated, using critical thinking and teamwork to enhance their understanding of sepsis management.

Junior Medical Officers, Team 2, from Coffs Harbour, took the win with an impressive escape time of 20 minutes and 50 seconds, while Port Macquarie’s Maternity team followed closely at 21 minutes and 1 second.

Participants praised the engaging format, which sharpened their sepsis response skills and promoted collaboration. This event is part of the ongoing efforts by the Mid North Coast Local Health District to improve sepsis education and patient outcomes.
