The Mid North Coast Local Health District’s iSim team, in collaboration with Coffs Harbour Intensivist Dr Raman Azad, facilitated a two-day Introduction to Procedures in Acute Care (IPAC) course.

IPAC is an intensive, hands-on training program offered to Medical Officers across Australia who are interested in providing care in intensive care units, emergency departments or in anaesthetics.

The IPAC has been a successful collaboration between the Acute Care Education Group and iSim Centre.

The course is offered twice per year in the Coffs Harbour iSim Centre facilitated by local, national and international teaching faculty.

The interactive and person-focused program includes educational topics such as:

  • Intercostal Catheter insertion and care
  • Central Venous Catheter insertion
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Pericardiocentesis
  • Emergency surgical airway
  • Cardioversion and Pacing

Proceeds from the course are re-invested to support education and training opportunities and resources across the MNCLHD including the recent purchase of an adult simulation mannikin and iSimulate to support simulation throughout the District.

The next IPAC course is scheduled for November 2023.
