Lee Millard-Newton's breast cancer journey inspired her to help others.
Lee takes runner-up trophy for Coffs Coast Woman of the Year
Mar 27, 2025Two incredible MNCLHD women were nominated for the 2025 International Women’s Day Coffs Coast Woman of the Year Award.
Lee Millard-Newton (former MNCLHD midwife and breast care nurse) and Michele Greenwood (multicultural health clinical nurse) were among the six finalists recognised at the annual Coffs Harbour event on Wednesday, 19 March.
Lee was named runner-up to winner Tiga Cross of the Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary.
Lee was recognised for her work within the breast cancer community. Having had a personal experience of breast cancer in 1997, while working as a midwife at CHHC and Baringa, her experience through treatment inspired her to do what she could to improve the journey for people diagnosed with breast cancer.
She studied to become a breast care nurse, worked with BreastScreen NSW from 2000 and Mid North Coast Cancer Services in 2001, established a young women’s support group and dragon boat club, facilitated seminars, forums, webinars, and educated community groups to boost breast cancer and lymphoedema awareness.
Lee’s work with the Cancer Council has seen volunteers trained and funds raised through events for the organisation.
In retirement from full-time work, Lee continues to advocate for the people she cares for and support the breast cancer community, working in various roles, including BreastScreen North Coast, Dr Salindera, and a specialised small business fitting bras and breast forms.
