Port Macquarie Base Hospital staff have farewelled much-loved Administration Officer Gillian Spence as she starts her new chapter in retirement.

After a 16-year long career at PMBH and 50 years working in the Health sector, Gillian’s last working day at the hospital was on Tuesday 25 July. 

Nurse Unit Manager – Specialist Teams Hastings Macleay Network, Michael Rohr, said Gillian exemplified dedication, compassion, and a commitment to excellence.

He said Gillian would be missed by staff and patients and wished her all the best.

“Throughout her illustrious career, Gillian embraced new challenges and environments,” he said.

“Gillian’s unwavering commitment and versatility shone through as she seamlessly assumed various roles, including invaluable stints in the Emergency Department and Executive area.

“Her part-time position as a Medical Transcriptionist at the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute left an indelible mark on the non-clinical services for patients.

“Gillian’s genuine care extended to holding relaxation sessions for patients at Rotary Lodge, fostering an atmosphere of tranquillity during their healing journey.

“Her contributions have positively impacted the lives of countless individuals, leaving an enduring legacy in the field of healthcare.”

Gillian said she has thoroughly enjoyed her career at PMBH.

“I’ve worked with lovely people, and I’ve been lucky to work for an employer that has offered me new and varied opportunities,” she said.

“My biggest highlight was going over to Community Health and working with Michael Rohr and our specialists’ team. Such a great bunch of folks.”

She said her retirement plans are to “initially wait for the dust to settle.”

“I’m looking forward to having a shower at a decent time of the day instead of 6am and just seeing what pops up before I lock in some specific things.”
