Generous prizes at annual Mini Olympic Games
Sep 05, 2023Coffs Harbour Health Campus, Mental Health Services, is warming up for the annual inpatient Mini Olympics, and the prize pool just grew thanks to a generous donation from Rotary Coffs Harbour.
The service started the games, inspired by the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo a few years ago. Staff saw the opportunity to engage patients to cheer on Australian athletes and have their own fun, too.
Staff and patients compete together over a full day of activities, prizes and a barbecue lunch.
Peer Support Worker Dane Owen said the games alleviate boredom and give patients a sense of pride while building rapport and morale. Rotary Coffs Harbour donated $500 towards the prizes.
“This year’s games will be the third annual event and promises to be the biggest yet full of comradery, celebration and, of course, lots of fun,” Mr Owen said.
