The stunning World Heritage-listed Dorrigo National Park was the perfect backdrop yesterday for a United Hospital Auxiliary get-together recognising a special birthday and the selfless service of four members.

Twenty volunteers celebrated the 90th birthday of the remarkable Nita McKnight, a member of the Dorrigo UHA for 66 years. Nita talked briefly about joining the Dorrigo branch in 1957, and spoke fondly of Ruby Truscott, her auxiliary mentor.

Nita, a former Mid North Coast Local Health District Volunteer of the Year Award recipient, also achieved the UHA NSW’s highest honour in 2017 when she was awarded Life Membership.

Service awards were presented to Robyn Delaforce for 10 years and 15-year certificates were presented to Julie Edmonds, Rosalie Walker and Janet Bennett.

President Lizzie Bennett and Regional UHA Representative Dee Hunter presented the certificates and flower bouquets, made by Lizzie, and in true Dorrigo style, the volunteers were joined by a bush turkey and a goanna, making the ceremony a truly unique one for the UHA.
