Coffs wins its first Platinum World Stroke Organization Award
Dec 18, 2024Coffs Harbour Health Campus has won its first Platinum World Stroke Organization (WSO) Angels Award, recognising excellence in stroke treatment and care.
The quarterly awards acknowledge high-performing hospitals and aim to improve patient outcomes by setting global benchmarks for best practice stroke care.
The Coffs Harbour Health Campus Stroke Clinical Nurse Coordinator Amanda Buzio explained that the team has been working hard to reduce their door-to-needle time to be consistently below 60 minutes and targeting swallow screening and their overall reperfusion rate.
She also attributed their award to:
- The Radiology Department running its own Quality Improvement (QI) project to streamline and expedite imaging and recognise and reward
- Ongoing education provided to medical and nursing staff about the Fever, Sugar, Swallow protocols as part of the Quality in Acute Stroke Care (QASC) Australasia research project
- The MNCLHD media unit has raised community awareness with a local media story.
“Congratulations to all involved in this impressive achievement and involved in stroke patient care at Coffs Harbour Health Campus. This award was only achieved because of our dedicated clinicians who are committed to providing best practice care,” Amanda said.
