Cardiac rehabilitation team earns international accreditation
Mar 05, 2025Congratulations to our cardiac rehabilitation team members who have recently achieved accreditation with the International Council of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (ICCPR) and the Australian Cardiac Rehab Association (ACRA).
Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a vital part of the recovery journey for individuals with cardiovascular disease, offering a multidisciplinary education and exercise program that improves long-term health outcomes. Evidence supports that patients attending CR have improved morbidity and mortality risk.
Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse Jannie Denyer said this accreditation is a testament to our team’s dedication and hard work.
“We are excited to continue providing high-quality care and support to our patients, helping them improve their health and well-being.”
In 2022, the Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour Cardiac Rehabilitation teams partnered with Charles Sturt University to investigate ‘The facilitators and barriers to participation in cardiac rehabilitation.’ Forty participants were interviewed across the two sites and the findings will be released soon.
The program was established in 2004 at Port Macquarie Community Health (PMCH), with the exercise and education component based at Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
With this accreditation, our service is now internationally recognised, and the PMCH CR team has successfully completed the qualification process, making them accredited clinicians.
Port Macquarie offers a flexible nine-week Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, including assessments, education and exercise.
