Captain Starlight’s mission to defeat boredom a huge success

The national charity, Starlight Children’s Foundation, has delivered boxes of Lego for sick children at Port Macquarie Base and Kempsey District hospitals.

The special packages arrived courtesy of charity partner Amazon and are already bringing smiles to young faces in Emergency at Kempsey and Paediatrics at Port Macquarie.

A perfect diversion therapy tool, the Lego kits were accompanied by a QR code so children could build their creations alongside the foundation’s superhero of fun, Captain Starlight.

The program is available to Hastings Macleay children through the foundation’s online platform Planet Starlight.

“The Starlight Children’s Foundation is reaching out to rural and regional hospitals to expand and share their expertise of bringing joy to sick children in hospital,” said Paediatric Clinical Nurse Educator Grady McNee.

“We are currently working with the Starlight Foundation on several projects which will hopefully be rolled out soon to assist Paediatric Nurses in distracting children during procedures.

“The Lego, as part of the foundation’s broader program, has provided a great distraction for children in hospital, reducing boredom, stress and anxiety and improving overall wellbeing.

“Our Paediatric team is very grateful for the donation to help brighten a sick child’s day.”
