Blood Bikes riders are part of our volunteer family

Not all Mid North Coast Local Health District volunteers wear pink smocks or orange shirts… some of our volunteers wear leathers, helmets, fluoro vests, and ride motorcycles.

Blood Bikes volunteers ensure no documents, pathology or blood samples, medicines or equipment miss a delivery deadline because usual courier services are unavailable.

Meet David Hessey, Tom Renton and Mike Mellefont, three Mid North Coast volunteer riders who provide the last-resort service for our local hospitals.

They can carry medicines, pathology samples or documents that need moving urgently…. provided they fit in the box on the back of the bike.

MNCLHD staff needing to access the service can email Sharon.fuller1@health.nsw.gov.au

Former Port Macquarie Base Hospital employee Tom Renton joined the volunteer group Blood Bikes after retiring so he could continue to make a difference to the hospital, its staff and patients. Pictured with him are Northern NSW Coordinator David Hessey and Coffs Harbour volunteer Mike Mellefont.
