Helene Bonney is one very happy and grateful artist. Just two weeks ago she was given clean bill of health from a melanoma diagnosis, which had spread to her heart, breast, spine and neck.

“It was such shocking news. I was rushed to hospital for lots of testing and the results just kept getting worse. I didn’t really take it in; it was very stressful,” Mrs Bonney said.

But after treatment and care, the Port Macquarie resident is on the road to recovery, doing what she does best, painting landscapes for all to enjoy.

“All the staff were so good to me, so kind and efficient. I just wanted to give back to the hospital for helping me in my time of need,” she said.

Five beautiful acrylic landscapes have been donated by Helene, which will hang in the rooms of the Mental Health Unit and surrounds for others to enjoy, and perhaps help them along their diagnosis journey.

“My art has always helped me get through. The mental health journey, during my diagnosis and treatment, is just as big as the cancer itself. So, this is my way of trying to help others; to brighten up their day,” she said.
