Cardiology Services
Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) provides a range of cardiology services to support the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of heart conditions.
Services are available at Port Macquarie Base Hospital and Coffs Harbour Health Campus, with outreach services supporting patients across the district.
What we do
We provide care for people with a range of heart conditions, including:
- chest pain and coronary artery disease
- heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias)
- heart failure
- other acute and chronic cardiac conditions.
Our teams include cardiologists, nurses and allied health staff who work together to deliver safe and effective care.
Hospital-based services
Coronary Care Unit (CCU)
Our Coronary Care Units provide specialised care for patients with serious or acute heart conditions. Patients are closely monitored and supported by experienced cardiac teams.
Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (CCL)
Our Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories provide diagnostic and interventional procedures, including:
- coronary angiography
- percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
- left and right heart studies
- implantable loop recorder insertion and removal
- transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE)
- electrical cardioversion
- permanent pacemaker insertion (Coffs Harbours Health Campus only).
These procedures help diagnose and treat heart conditions.
Non-invasive cardiac testing
We also provide a range of non-invasive in-patient tests, including:
- transthoracic echocardiography (heart ultrasound)
- exercise stress testing
- cardiac device checks (pacemakers and defibrillators).
Procedures performed in the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory require referral from a treating cardiologist.
Your general practitioner (GP) or specialist can help determine the most appropriate referral for your care.
