Port City Bowling Club grant supports palliative care patients
Sep 29, 2023Port City Bowling Club has partnered with Hastings Cancer Trust to deliver four comfortable recliners to Wauchope District Memorial Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit.
The $9082 donation through the Club Grants program means patients will have ergonomic, fully adjustable recliners to rest or sleep in.
The chairs will also be welcomed by family members who want to stay with their loved one overnight.
Port City Bowling Club CEO David Gearing said he was proud of the Club Grants program and the difference it made to local charities and sporting groups.
“Our club is a community-based and locally owned club supporting any cause in need of donations,” Mr Gearing said.
“We’re proud to be in this space, and in this instance, supporting seriously ill patients and their families.”
Trustee Ron Fischer from Hastings Cancer Trust thanked the club for reaching out to the cancer-focused charity to find a worthy cause to support.
“Hastings Cancer Trust is proud to work closely with Port City Bowling Club and other sponsors to raise funds to help local cancer patients, services and projects,” Mr Fischer said.
“Our fundraising committee works tirelessly with our community to ensure local cancer patients receive the support they and their loved ones need.”
Mr Fischer invited Hastings residents to donate to the Trust or join the Friends of the Hastings Cancer Trust to help fundraise.
One of the region’s oldest and most trusted charities, Hastings Cancer Trust invites grant applications each year from community or health organisations focused on the care and treatment of cancer patients.
The grants program has given back more than $1.1 million in the past decade for medical equipment, clinical trials, specialist cancer training, palliative care, and to support charities supporting patients and their families.
