Kempsey branch of the United Hospital Auxiliary, Pink Ladies and General Volunteers has celebrated a return to volunteering and elected familiar faces to lead the group’s executive committee into the future.

Maxine Walker was returned as the branch President at the group’s recent annual general meeting, Colleen Waterson will continue as Vice-president, and Suzanne Wells as Secretary.

Joanne Robb was elected as Treasurer when Pat Major stepped down after three years in the role and a number of years as Vice-president.

Regional Representative Dee Hunter acknowledged Pat’s contributions as treasurer, presenting her with a gift and bouquet of flowers for her efforts.

Former Kempsey Shire Mayor and Kempsey District Hospital (KDH) Director of Nursing Betty Green and long-standing hospital volunteer Aileen Lewthwaite continue as the branch’s patrons. Aileen was also presented with a medal for 20 years’ service.

The group has been pleased to return to volunteer duties at KDH this year and is busily planning for the hospital’s Spring Fair on Saturday 16 September.

Maxine thanked Kempsey businesses for contributing almost $5,000 in donations to the Fair to date, including a Jumbuck barbecue from Bunnings, 25kg of sausages from Everson’s Food Processors, 30 loaves of bread from local bakeries, and hamper and sauces from IGA.

She also thanked Bunnings for its donations of plants and other items to help with the group’s special project of revamping the hospital’s rehab garden.

Regional Representative Dee Hunter praised the branch for its “tremendous effort and support” and congratulated them on another successful year.

“We have a magnificent history and it’s great that you are all continuing it on,” she said.
