Mandatory Training

Mandatory training refers to learning activities that meet identified skills required by the organisation in response to legislative, policy and/or service delivery needs, and is endorsed by the content experts and Executive of the Local Health Districts in the relevant content area.

Purpose

To ensure all employees including managers have a clear understanding of their responsibilities and accountability regarding Mandatory Training. Mandatory Training is provided to meet legislative, policy and/or service delivery needs.

On the 1st July 2014, the Minister for Health signed off and formalised the NSW Health Mandatory Training and Education Requirements at a State level.
 
The Term “Mandatory Training” within NSW Health is reserved for state-wide training and education courses that have been classified within the 3-Tier NSW Health  Mandatory  Training  and  Education  Classification  System.

NSW Health Education and Training Requirements Guidelines

Orientation

Education & Training Requirements for the first 4 weeks of employment.

Induction

Education & Training Requirements for the first 3-6 months of employment.

Repeat Training

Education & Training Requirements or repeat training required at an Annual/ 3 or 5 year Frequency.

Mandatory Tier 1

Statutory Training

Statutory Training means training in a defined subject matter:(a) which a person must complete; or(b) which a person must ensure that another person completes, in order to satisfy a legal obligation specified under legislation (or subordinate legislative instrument).

Mandatory Tier 2

National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHSS) Training

NSQHS Standards Training means training in a defined subject matter:(a) which a person must complete; or(b) which a person must ensure that another person completes, in order for a health service to meet the requirements of the NSQHS Standards.

Mandatory Tier 3

MoH Policy Directive Training

MoH Policy Directive Training means training in a defined subject matter:(a) which a person must complete; or(b) which a person must ensure that another person completes, in order to comply with a requirement of the NSW Ministry of Health (MoH) specified in a policy directive.
