Appreciative Inquiry

Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is a strength based approach to change and innovation. This methodology helps us to be curious to understand what is working well and why, and seek ways to make these things happen more of the time.

AI is used in many settings for a wide variety of purposes, here on the mid north coast we are interested in and committed to improving the experience of each individual who interacts with our health service, this can be patients, their family and friends, staff, volunteers and external consultants … really it can be anyone.

The model or cycle to inquire appreciatively is firstly being curious, to discover what is working well and importantly why, then to use this information to dream or envision what could be, to design an image of the future. In design we are focused on co-creating a plan, we are exploring and innovating together, asking questions like “what can we work on together to make this happen?”

Deliver is about embedding what we have created into our world, observing and being curious how it’s operating, it’s a dynamic process.
