Prof Belinda Dewar -Caring Conversations

Belinda Dewar is the Professor of Practice Improvement at the University of the West of Scotland. Belinda has worked closely with healthcare staff across the LHD over the past 3 years, introducing and facilitating the principles of Appreciative Inquiry and in particular her work ‘Caring Conversations’,  which is based in the principles of AI and the culmination of her research and PHD thesis.

The Caring Conversations framework supports an appreciative approach to developing supportive relationships for both people giving and receiving care, where we learn and innovate from each other. The key outcome of this work is enhancing wellbeing and experience for staff, patients, families and all those that interact with the health service.

Belinda is also the Director of My Home Life Scotland  a UK wide initiative to promote quality of life for those living, dying, visiting and working in care homes through relationship centred and evidenced based practice. This website is a wonderful source of information and resources for AI approaches in the healthcare setting.

We have located a number of resources and tools developed by Belinda and her team that are being used across the LHD  which we hope you will find useful.

If you haven’t encountered Belinda’s work previously, we encourage you to take a look.
