Colouring my life is a program run by staff from the Port Macquarie Health Campus’ Child and Family team. Each session is delivered in a supportive environment that promotes group discussion around post-natal depression and ways of managing your depression in a practical way.

The program runs for up to six weeks and is held twice per year to coincide with the school terms. The sessions run for two hours every week from 10.30am to 12.30pm, generally on Fridays. The program also includes an evening session for partners, which usually occurs on the third week of the program between 5.30pm and 7.00pm.

The sessions involve some group and individual activities with a take home activity each week. The groups are relaxed and there is plenty of time to share experiences and information. Facilitators of the program include a child and family health nurse, a women’s health nurse and social workers. Individual counselling is also available if required.

The Program promotes positive self-growth in a supportive environment. The topics below are covered during the course of the program:

  • Identifying and exploring the Mood
  • Myths of Motherhood
  • Compassionate Self Talk
  • Getting in Touch with Me including self-care
  • Keeping the Colour in My Life
  • What’s different in my Life and supports to help
  • The importance of play in the mother child relationship.
