Local Council Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) and Public Health Unit (PHU) EHOs conduct random inspections of public swimming pool and spas on the North Coast. Public pools can include recreational pools, resort pools, hotel pools and motel pools.
Water samples are often taken during the inspection and microbiological and chemical analysis is conducted. The officers inspect the pool operation and maintenance procedures.
The PHU EHOs offer advice regarding public pool operation and water quality in addition to public health training and advice to local pool and spa pool operators of public swimming pools.
The Public Health (Swimming Pools and Spa Pools) Regulation 2012 and Guidelines be found on the NSW Health website.
