Coronary Care

The Coronary Care Unit is a critical care unit that provides early assessment and intervention for patients experiencing a suspected or actual acute cardiac event.

We care for patients with potentially life- threatening cardiac conditions including:

  • Acute coronary syndromes
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Acute congestive heart failure
  • Patients pre/post interventional cardiac procedures.

Referral Process:

Referral from a Cardiologist is essential.

The Coronary Care Unit has 10 beds dedicated for acute cardiology patients and admits those patients that have been risk stratified as Intermediate and High Risk Acute Coronary Syndrome or Myocardial Infarction, cardiac dysrhythmia’s, post elective and emergency procedures in the Coronary Angiography Unit and other cardiac related diagnosis.

Since April 2012 Coronary Care at Coffs Harbour Health Campus offers a 24/7 inpatient service. Coffs Harbour Health Campus has a 10 coronary care beds. Of those, 6 are monitored beds and 4 are non-monitored. Our staffing is 3 nurses per shift, 24/7. We maintain a ratio of 1 nurse to 3 monitored patients, and 1 to 4 non-monitored patients.

  • Cardiology Services. Includes Coronary Care Unit, Cardiac Catheter Lab, Trans Oesophageal Echocardiography/Elective Synchronized Cardioversion (TOE/ESC)
  • Coronary Care Unit provides specialised cardiac care for Inpatients of PMBH. The Cardiac Catheter Lab will provide diagnostic and interventional  coronary angiography to both inpatients and outpatients.
