7 week exercise and education program to improve balance, strength and stamina to reduce falls in older patients.

Suitable for patients who are:

  • Independently mobile or using walking aids
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions independently.

7 week Stepping On falls Prevention Program several programs per year.

Stepping On Criteria

Available to patients who are:

  • Aged > 65 years
  • Have a fear of falling or previous falls in last 12 months
  • Cognitively intact
  • Reasonably mobile to perform simple strength & balance exercises.

Exclusions

Patients with Parkinson disease (refer to general outpatients).

Referrals

  1. Mail a referral letter to Physiotherapy Department, Camden Haven Community Health Centre, PO Box 20, Laurieton, NSW 2443, or
    • fax a referral letter to (02) 6559‑9840.
  2. Include the following information:
    • the patient’s diagnosis and symptoms (particularly neurological)
    • how long they have had it
    • if it is affecting activities of daily living or if the patient is off work because of the injury.
  3. Referrals are triaged A, B or C according the injury and the time since the injury occurred. Patients who have received some other physiotherapy (e.g., EPC) are generally triaged as a C.
