About 40 volunteers from the BowraMacksville and Nambucca branches of the United Hospital Auxiliaries gathered together last Friday to celebrate their achievements in raising funds for Macksville District Hospital.
The volunteers who work hard in the Coffee Shop at the Hospital all year gathered together for their annual Friendship Day – a social get-together over lunch.
Top of the long list of reasons to celebrate was the remarkable effort in reaching a combined branch fundraising target of $40,000. The funds will be used to purchase a portable ultrasound for the hospital – a much-needed piece of equipment for the benefit of staff and patients.
UHA BowraMacksville President Isabelle Hooper, and several of the Hospital staff attending the function, congratulated the volunteers on their achievements and thanked them all for their time so generously given in support of the Hospital and the community.
The volunteers, who also raise funds selling raffle tickets, organising weekly bingo and the social card game Crazy Whist sessions, had great fun on the day which fell in National Volunteers Week.
As well as playing games and enjoying a delicious lunch, they were treated to a display of beautiful handmade jewellery by local artist Evie Smith and an overview of the new Macksville Hospital Development by Project Officer Mark Tyler.
Anyone wanting to join the volunteers and work in the café or help out with other fund raising activities, please phone Isabelle Hooper on 6564 7179 or Health Edwards on 6568 2807.
