The respected children’s charity Give Me 5 For Kids (GM5FKs) is off and running on the Mid North Coast thanks to Triple M Coffs Coast 106.3.
The radio station is a long-time organiser of the annual fundraiser in support of Coffs Harbour Health Campus’ Paediatric Unit and Special Care Nursery.
Since 2013, the Coffs Harbour community has raised an amazing $138,728 in support of local paediatric and neonatal patients through the charity.
The funds have purchased medical equipment, such as vital signs monitors and ECG machines.
This year, the radio station is hoping GM5FKs will raise enough funds to donate a sleep study monitor, two specialist paediatric cots and chairs that convert into sofa beds for parents who want to stay with their child in hospital. Also on the wish list is a special table used in the treatment of paediatric fractures and dislocations. The target is $40,000.
The campaign launches on 1 June with the GM5FKs Golf Day at Coffs Harbour Golf Course.
Throughout the month, donation tins will be placed at business houses on the Coffs Coast, including Woolworths which has come on board as a GM5FKs partner. Other special events include the GM5FKs on-air auctions from June 25 to 28, Oceans 8 Movie Night hosted by Sawtell Rotary Club at the Majestic Theatre in Sawtell on 7 June, Big Banana Fun Day on 16 June and the Dolphin Marine Magic Show on 23 June.
From June 4 to 8, breakfast show host Michael (Moffee) Moffett will again take to the streets with his trusty wheelie bin, walking 50 kilometres in five days from Woolgoolga to Sawtell collecting donations along the way.
The fundraising campaign culminates with Triple M’s live broadcast from Coffs Harbour Health Campus on Friday 29 June where a community barbecue will also get underway in a last-minute dash for cash for a great cause.
Mid North Coast Local Health District Corporate Relations Coordinator Sharon Fuller said the community response to GM5FKs was amazing.
“Every year, Triple M listeners show remarkable support for our young patients,” Mrs Fuller said.
“This is a charity event that supports local children and their families when they need it most.
“Give Me 5 For Kids is a strong and vital partner in the delivery of exceptional health care to youngsters on the Coffs Coast, and for that we are extremely grateful,” Mrs Fuller said.
