Community unites to transform MNCCI courtyard for patients

The Mid North Coast Cancer Institute (MNCCI) has received incredible support from the local community, which has raised $11,782.20 to help refurbish the Institute’s courtyard.

Led by The Westport Club and inspired by their mantra, “great together”, the community came together for a shared purpose—to support local cancer patients. Fundraising efforts included barefoot bowls, a paint ‘n’ sip evening, raffles, and events hosted at local schools, showcasing the collective spirit and generosity of the Hastings.

The funds will help transform the concrete and steel courtyard into a serene sanctuary, providing a welcoming space where patients and their loved ones can relax and connect.

Marketing Manager at The Westport Club Steve Bindstadt helped drive the campaign, which not only attracted support for the club’s events, but inspired other groups, including Port Macquarie Public School, Westport Public School, Port Macquarie Bridge Club, and Westport Women’s Bowling Club to host their own fundraisers for the cause.

“Those who supported this initiative had a great time while doing something remarkable for others,” Mr Bindstadt said.

“This campaign reflects the power of community and the impact we can achieve when we come together.”

Acting Nurse Unit Manager Nikki Rooimans, who participated with fellow nurses in some of the fundraisers, said she was grateful for the club’s leadership and the community’s response.

“It was a fun and inspiring way for people to come together for a cause that benefits local cancer patients receiving care close to home,” Ms Rooimans said.

“Cancer care is not just about the medical equipment and clinical space; it’s also about creating an environment where patients feel safe, relaxed, and can spend quality time with their loved ones.

“This outstanding show of support highlights the strength of a community united by compassion and care.

“Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of local cancer patients.”
