Port Macquarie Women’s Golf Club will host its fourth annual Breast Cancer Charity Golf Day next week in support of Mid North Coast Cancer Institute’s breast cancer patients.

Wednesday’s field of 132 members will play an Ambrose competition.

While physical distancing will be the norm among competitors when they tee off, the golfers will be aiming to get as close as possible to the hole once they hit the green.

The charity day has again attracted support from event sponsor KFC (Port Macquarie and Port Macquarie Service Centre), a partnership franchise owner Fran Scutts is proud of.

“The Port Macquarie Women’s Golf Club Breast Cancer Charity Golf Day is one of the biggest charity golf days on the Mid North Coast,” Ms Scutts said.

“We also think it’s one of the most important.

“Most of the club’s members have either had breast cancer or know of someone dear to them who has had it.

“The charity golf day is one way we can throw our support behind local breast cancer patients because we know the funds raised, stay here in the Hastings valley.”

Women’s President Patsy Choo said the sponsorship agreement was more important this year than ever.

“We are very grateful to have Fran’s support because this year’s event will be impacted by COVID restrictions,” Ms Choo said.

“I would also like to thank Jon’s Family Jewellers for their continued support and Marcella Creations.

“We’ve decided to put safety first, so the hard decision was made to keep registrations to locals only.

“It’s a shame because a big part of the day is the social networking that takes place between the different clubs and the enormous amount of fun that socialising generates.

“The good news is that in previous years some members have missed out so visiting clubs could be accommodated.

“While 2020 will be different, we weren’t about to let a pandemic ruin the fundraising opportunity.

“Breast cancer is an insidious disease and we are determined to do our bit to help patients overcome it.”

Mid North Coast Cancer Institute Breast Cancer Nurse Specialist Joanne Woodlands thanked Port Macquarie Women’s Golf Club for pushing ahead with the fundraiser.

“I’m very grateful to the women’s golf club for hosting this important charity day and for the opportunities that come with it – to do some really positive things in our community for women with breast cancer.”
