Robin Ashley is an inspiration to her colleagues, patients and community.

As a dedicated Social Worker in the Acute Mental Health Unit at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus, Robin has been recognised twice this year for her passion towards her work and community.

In June, Robin was named a recipient in the Allied Health Professional of the Year category at the Mid North Coast Local Health District’s 2023 Quality and Innovation Awards.

And just this week, Robin was announced as a finalist in the 2023 Rotary Inspirational Women’s Awards.

The Rotary Inspirational Women’s Awards shine a light on the enormous contribution of women in both urban and rural communities across the state. Robin has been nominated in the Inspirational Health Worker Over 30 category.

Robin is passionate about helping the refugee community, advocating for and supporting their resettlement in Australia. She brings unique expertise into her role through her own experience of adopting children from overseas.

She is currently supporting an Afghan family at a Pakistan refugee camp by helping them move to Australia and has held multiple fundraising events to help support the family financially once they arrive.

Robin’s work with the Mental Health Unit has seen her redefine ward processes to ensure patients are placed at the centre of their care.

This has involved her collaborating with key services in the Coffs Harbour area to streamline the referral process to ensure a safe discharge to promote recovery as well as improved communication with external services such as Centrelink and housing services.

Robin was instrumental in creating a carers pack to enhance resources for patients and their families and educate staff on the role of social workers.

She is also part of the LGBTQI+ Working Group to ensure inclusive health care and a welcoming environment for all.

Robin will attend the Rotary Inspirational Women’s Awards ceremony on 10 September.
