Radiation therapists and radiographers flex their culinary muscle

Nov 19, 2024

The radiology department at Wauchope District Memorial Hospital and Mid North Coast Cancer Institute (MNCCI) at Port Macquarie joined in the nationwide celebration of National Radiographers and Radiation Therapist Week 2024.

In Wauchope a foyer display let visitors and staff learn about obscure facts and quirky about the origins and history of x-rays and the world of radiology (did you know there are almost 20,000 practising radiographers in Australia? Handy on a trivia night…or not). Themed baked goods added a sweet touch to the fun.

In Port, the radiation therapy team came together to acknowledge their strong bonds and the privilege of delivering therapeutic radiation as part of our comprehensive cancer services.

The morning tea had a competitive edge – a bake-off was keenly judged before being consumed. Peter Devlin’s SABR Brain Cake took out first prize.

With only about 2,200 practising radiation therapists across Australia, the profession may be small but it is vital to integrated cancer treatment.

Creative ideas from MNCCI, judgy judges, and the brainy winner.
