Aug 13, 2024Cheryl O’Connor, Administration Support Officer, earned the MNCLHD Safety Leadership Award for quarter two 2024.
Cheryl is a member of the administration team based in the main reception area of Port Macquarie Base Hospital (PMBH).
Not only has Cheryl displayed a commitment to worker safety through her long tenure on the PMBH Work Health and Safety Committee and her service as a Manual Handling Advocate for the administration team, Cheryl has also improved the safety outcomes for her team through her patience, consistency and impressive ability as a trainer.
Cheryl has been noted to adapt training to suit the cultural needs of workers across multiple departments providing the information needed for workers to perform their duties safely and feel culturally supported throughout the training and induction process.
Safety Leadership Award
The Safety Leadership Award Program was introduced in 2021 and recognises employees who demonstrate excellence and innovative contributions to workplace health, safety, and well-being.
Commendations are awarded for outstanding and/or innovative actions, concepts, demonstrated initiatives, creation and development of proactive approaches and culture to enhance all staff members’ health, safety, and well-being.
Eligibility criteria
Awarded to an individual or a team who collectively demonstrate and make significant contributions that strengthen the Local Health District’s health, safety, and well-being culture.

Outstanding WHS actions to prevent injury
Demonstrating health safety leadership qualities including exceptional safe work practices
