The Nambucca branch of the United Hospital Auxiliary (UHA) recently visited Macksville District Hospital to see firsthand the impact of their $32,500 donation made in the lead-up to their recent Annual General Meeting.

This significant contribution has funded much-needed equipment, including window tinting in the patient lounge at the rear of the hospital, a high-definition camera, coupler, and lights for laparoscopic procedures in the operating theatre, as well as a mobile observation machine.

The volunteers took the opportunity to witness how their hard work and dedication are directly benefiting patients and staff at the hospital.

Macksville District Hospital’s Deputy Director of Nursing, Mark Tyler, expressed deep gratitude for the Auxiliary’s ongoing support.

“We are incredibly grateful for the Nambucca United Hospital Auxiliary’s generous donation,” Mr Tyler said.

“The new equipment enhances our ability to provide high-quality care, and the impact on our patients and staff is immeasurable.

“We hold the work and dedication of our volunteers in the highest regard, as their efforts make a profound difference to our hospital and the community we serve.”

The high-definition camera is crucial for laparoscopic procedures as it provides clear, detailed images of inside the body. When used with the coupler and lights, it provides surgeons with a highly detailed view of internal organs and tissues, critical for accurate and safe surgery.

The mobile observation machine is a portable device used to monitor vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and temperature. It is used to continuously observe a patient’s condition during and after surgery, or in other critical care settings.

UHA branch President Michelle O’Keefe said the donation was the result of strong community support for the UHA Bingo, held every Wednesday at the Nambucca Heads RSL Club.

“We are incredibly proud of the support we receive from our Nambucca community,” Ms O’Keefe said. “This is the true essence of community—coming together to lift each other and, in doing so, creating a better place and a stronger, more connected community for everyone.”
