Kempsey volunteers attend orientation and induction

Apr 17, 2024

Kempsey District Hospital has welcomed its volunteers on site for an orientation and education opportunity with the aim of keeping these important members of the Mid North Coast Local Health District team safe.

The volunteers learned about the site’s duress system, fire and emergency exits, what to do in the event of a fire, and were introduced to safety tips from Work Health and Safety Manager Brian Haynes.

Nurse Educator Michelle Heffernan was also present, to talk about good hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and vaccination requirements.

Volunteer coordinators Jenny Clarke and Sue Croad ensured the enthusiastic raffle ticket sellers and stall fundraisers were knowledgeable about safe cash handling practices and what to do in the event of a robbery.

Volunteers unable to attend this week’s orientation, which was held in conjunction with the Kempsey branch of the United Hospital Auxiliary’s monthly meeting, will have the opportunity to attend another in a couple of months.

Volunteers are required to do an annual fire education session and biennial manual handling session.

The mandatory orientation session ensures the District meets its legislative requirements for training and induction. It’s also the perfect opportunity to let hospital volunteers know how much they are valued!
