Introducing the Health and the Arts Framework 2024–2032

Nov 19, 2024

The arts play a pivotal role in providing patients and communities with positive experiences in health facilities, making what can be the most stressful times in people’s lives more welcoming and inclusive.

The Health and the Arts Framework 2024–2032 is now available to guide health staff and services to integrate the arts into healthcare delivery.

It builds on the first statewide framework released in 2016, with new guidance on success factors such as leadership, cultural safety, partnerships, innovation, co-design, cultural asset management and scalability.

The arts play a significant role in complementing the experience of care. Different types of art are already being used across many clinical settings, including cancer treatment centres, mental healthcare, aged care, and in the care of children and young people.

The Framework recognises this impact across the NSW Health system, integrating the arts to support key health challenges such as workforce strategies, Aboriginal health, aged care and mental health. Implementing the new Framework will contribute to meeting NSW Health strategic priorities under the Future Health Strategic Framework by providing better value care, cultural safety, and health literacy.

Download the Framework and find guidance on success factors for embedding the arts into our facilities and healthcare.
