Highest honour for Camden Haven’s Jennifer Lucey

Oct 27, 2023

The United Hospital Auxiliaries (UHA) of NSW has bestowed Life Membership on Jen Lucey, a volunteer who has given 30 years of service to the organisation’s Camden Haven branch.

Life Membership is the UHA’s highest honour – Mrs Lucey becomes just the 39th Auxiliary member on the Mid North Coast to receive the award since 1959.

The branch’s president for the past four years received her citation at the UHA’s 90th annual State Conference in Newcastle on 18 and 19 October.

One of the first to congratulate Mrs Lucey on receiving the honour was North Eastern Regional Representative Dee Hunter, who said the accolade was well deserved.

“Jen is an extraordinarily hard-working volunteer who is a natural leader and organiser,” Ms Hunter said.

“Her commitment to supporting Port Macquarie Base and Wauchope District Memorial hospitals, as well as Camden Haven HealthOne, has resulted in medical equipment and comfort items that improve patient care and experience.”

Camden Haven UHA branch secretary Bron Guymer said Mrs Lucey’s award recognised three decades of willing and reliable service.

“Jen participates in fundraising activities, organising events, setting up, clearing away, modelling in our fashion parades and selling raffle tickets,” Mrs Guymer said.

“Not only is she generous with her time and talents, but she is also always a generous donor of plants, food, and other goods, which we use for raffles and other fundraising activities.

“Jennifer embraces and is skilled in many crafts, including crocheting, pottery, card making, ceramics and jewellery making. She has made dozens of beautiful, crocheted rugs, which she gladly donates to the local palliative care and rehabilitation units in our local hospitals, promoting our work in the local community and identifying the needs of the hospital for purchases of equipment from our fundraising efforts.

“Jennifer is greatly appreciated and admired by all our branch members, and we are thrilled she has been named a Life Member of the UHA.”
