Heart Health vollies celebrate the year that was
Nov 29, 2022Heart Health NSW held its end-of-year gathering for its Port Macquarie members at Port Macquarie Golf Club recently, celebrating another year of healthy walks and the resumption of Coronary Care Unit and Cardiac Rehabilitation volunteer services at Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
More than 50 volunteers and guests attended, including Community Physiotherapist Carolyn Hamilton and Mid North Coast Local Health District Corporate Relations Manager Sharon Fuller. PMBH’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Coordinator Jannie Denyer, who also works closely with the volunteer group, was an apology.
The get-together was also an opportunity to remember founding president Robert Edwards, who passed away in September, and his wife Lyn, who passed last year.
President Doug Short kept formalities to a minimum, ensuring those present had plenty of time to catch up with each other.
The volunteers provide advocacy and support to Port Macquarie Base Hospital cardiac patients and their carers, as well as hosting popular walks throughout the Mid North Coast that promote heart health, especially for those who have had a cardiac episode.
The Laurieton Heart Health Christmas party was held at Bonny Hills and attracted almost 20 members.
The volunteers conduct walks from Port Macquarie Town Beach Car Park (Thursdays, 8.30am), Laurieton United Services Club lower car park (Mondays at 8.30am), Waterman’s Cafe Wauchope (Tuesdays 8.30am) and Gladstone Park (Fridays 7am), where members of the public, including people who have experienced cardiac health issues, are welcome to join for a bit of fitness and fun.
