It’s cold, damp and very ordinary outside… which makes it the perfect time to cook up a hearty meal that fills the tummy and warms the soul.

There’s nothing quite like on old-school stew or soup to turn winter into a bit self-indulgence, and the residents of Highview at Dorrigo Multi Purpose Service are ready to serve.

They have plenty of cooking experience between them so what better way to raise funds than to pool that collective knowledge and create the perfect cook book.

Highview For The Love of Cooking is a fundraising recipe book which is selling like hot cakes. It’s now on its fifth print run, making it a bestseller in anyone’s book.

“We started collecting recipes from residents their families, friends and staff,” said Diversional Therapist Christine Martin.

“There was excitement all round.

“We had the help of an amazing website called ‘createacookbook’. We are all very happy with end result.

“We cook donated produce weekly at ‘Highview’.

“To date we have made well over 500 jars of produce, including pickles, chutney, jams, butters and sauces. We also have rhubarb and custard regularly, gramma pies, when in season, and scones every Tuesday for friendship afternoon tea.

“The kitchen and ‘Highview’ join forces and deliver a special treat for all residents, regularly.”

Anyone wanting to purchase a ‘Highview’ cookbook can place their order through Dorrigo Multi Purpose Service by phoning 6692 7700. Copies cost $20 each but the content, says Christine, is priceless.
