Port Macquarie Evening branch of Country Women’s Association (CWA) has made a special delivery to Port Macquarie Base Hospital’s Maternity Unit.

The talented and generous ladies created six gift baskets destined for disadvantaged mums and their bubs.

Each basket has disposable nappies, a nappy bag, baby wipes, sanitary pads, nursing pads, toys, bunny rugs, socks, hats, bibs, blankets, towels and face washers. Some items were handmade – all items were given with love.

“We really do enjoy creating these gift baskets,” said branch Handicraft Officer Debbie May.

“Of course, mums and bubs were the original reason for the CWA forming and most people would remember the CWA’s Baby Health Clinics.

“Our founding reason for the CWA was to support country women and their children.”

Two years shy of its centenary, the CWA is now the largest women’s organisation in Australia.

“We want to thank our members, and the community, for supporting Port Macquarie Evening branch’s fundraising activities, which make donations such as our gift baskets, possible,” Ms May said.

“The CWA continues to advocate for country women and their children, and every branch deserves community support.”

Mid North Coast Local Health District Corporate Relations Coordinator Sharon Fuller said the Evening branch had supported local mums and bubs for more than 30 years, and it was an honour to accept their latest gift on behalf of the new mums who would benefit from the donation.

“2020 has been a difficult year for most charities, which makes the Evening branch’s continued support even more special,” Mrs Fuller said.

“Our midwives at Port Macquarie Base Hospital were thrilled to accept the gift baskets and will ensure they go to new mums who will be just as thrilled to receive such beautiful support.”
