Commitment to Preventing Racism: update and resources

Jun 13, 2024

Our Commitment to Preventing Racism is an extensive body of work that involves the time and skills of a volunteer working group.

In late May, our Manager Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Hayley Owen presented the steps taken in our LHD at the Addressing Racism in Healthcare: Actions for Equity and Cultural Safety, Research to Practice Forum in Sydney.

South Eastern Sydney LHD hosted the forum to bring together leaders working in the anti-racism space to share their research findings, actions and ongoing strategies to address racism and build a culture of safety and inclusion.

The presentations and discussions showed that the work in progress on the Mid North Coast is well-designed and leadership-driven.

Our working group is discussing our organisation’s current status in addressing racism and co-designing the way forward so that our systems and processes support cultural safety for people from all backgrounds.

The Commitment to Preventing Racism intranet page is being updated with resources as they are developed, for us all to build awareness and skills in addressing racism and how to safely call out, support and report incidents.

Our Executive, Board and Senior Leaders will soon begin training on Creating an Anti-racist Organisation.

Further resources and training will be developed for all staff, however, there are many resources available online through the Australian Human Rights Commission website.
