Bringing smiles: A visit from the therapy ponies of Hoofbeat Farm.

Christmas joy and smiles delivered at Kempsey

Dec 08, 2023

There were plenty of smiles at Kempsey District Hospital when two special guests made a visit.

Ponies, Mr T and Possum charmed patients and staff as they visited the Rehab Garden and Close Observation Unit, spreading Christmas cheer.

The antler-wearing ponies come from Hoofbeat Farm at Collombatti, an equine therapy business. They’re regular visitors to local nursing homes, and today’s visit was their first to the hospital. First, a thorough hygiene, allergy, risk and trauma assessment was completed to ensure patient and staff safety.

These therapy animals were gentle with patients and adored by staff.

Visits from the ponies and other pets as therapy are being planned for the future.
