Celebrating our wise and resilient elders
Jul 13, 2023In the spirit of NAIDOC Week, a combined effort of honour, acknowledgement and inclusion for our elders was held in Nambucca recently.
Staff and patients came together for a special morning tea at the Nambucca Health One Renal Unit to express gratitude and appreciation for our Aboriginal elders’ and their wisdom, resilience, cultural knowledge, and leadership.
The Aboriginal Health Team organised an additional morning tea to promote and support the attendance of Aboriginal patients undergoing dialysis services at Nambucca Health One.
The Renal Unit was filled with happiness and celebration with patients enjoying healthy food, a good yarn and a laugh.
Aunty Ester expressed appreciation for the event saying “It’s a good thing that you are doing here, thank you.”
For the Elders who are in renal services and care, 2023 NAIDOC celebrations have been a cherished experience by all and strong experiences that connect the NAIDOC celebration.
In reflection of this year’s theme, ‘For Our Elders’, it is important to remember the valuable experiences and lessons from Our Elders, their stories of resilience and their dedication to preserving Aboriginal culture and heritage.
