Celebrating our team on Global Peer Support Day

The Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) is fortunate to have 11 peer support staff working across Integrated Mental Health, Alcohol, and Other Drugs (IMHAOD) teams.

Today is Global Peer Support Day, an opportunity to recognise the vital role these dedicated individuals play in the lives of people experiencing mental health challenges, addiction, and trauma.

Peer workers offer a unique form of support, drawing on their lived experiences to foster trust, empathy, and hope in those they assist.

By sharing their journeys of recovery and resilience, they create connections that traditional therapeutic approaches may not always achieve. This connection builds a bridge of understanding, providing a sense of belonging to those navigating difficult times.

“Our Peer Support workers bring a special kind of care that speaks directly to the heart of what many of our patients and clients are going through,” said MNCLHD Acting Director Integrated Mental Health and Other Drugs, Sarah Fox.

“They provide not only guidance and support but also a message of hope—that recovery is possible.”

Peer workers collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring their insights and perspectives are part of care planning and service delivery. Their contributions help shape a more holistic and compassionate approach to mental health and substance use care.

Thanks to all peer support staff for their continued dedication to our community.
