A kind topic at final Schwartz Round for 2023Nov 28, 2023
The theme for the November Schwartz Rounds Leadership Group was Kindness Works Here.
Coffs Harbour Health Campus hosted the round on 22 November 2023. On the panel were Dorrigo MPS Registered Nurse Wendy Allison-Williams, CNE Mental Health Services Alison Taylor, and Learning and Development Program Manager Casey Cook.
The panellists shared a story about acts of kindness, big and small, and their impact.
A simple thank you, paying for the coffee for the person in the line behind you, or just sitting with someone and listening can make a big difference. They can brighten someone’s day and have the added bonus of boosting happiness and health.
At the end of the Round, the panellists were presented with a Certificate of Acknowledgement to recognise their important part in making the Round a success.
Schwartz Rounds is a structured group forum where clinical and non-clinical staff meet regularly to discuss the emotional and social aspects of working in healthcare.
Schwartz Rounds are an opportunity to take ‘time out’ to reflect on work in a safe, collegial, and compassionate space. They are often described as a place where you can go for an hour and breathe differently.
Unlike other initiatives such as group reflective practice or clinical supervision, the purpose is not to solve problems or focus on patient care’s clinical aspects. Schwartz Rounds are inclusive of all employees.
‘Kindness Works Here’ was the last Schwartz Round for 2023. The Schwartz Rounds Leadership Team and the Executive Sponsors would like to thank all 2023 panellists and host sites for participating and supporting this very important program. Schwartz Rounds will return in 2024. Further details will be provided early next year.
If you are a MNCLHD employee and are interested in hosting a Schwartz Round at your site or being a future panellist, please send your expression of interest to MNCLHD-HealthSafetyWellbeing@health.nsw.gov.au. The opportunity to be a panellist is open to all healthcare workers, clinical, non-clinical and corporate team members.
