SALSA Program

The SALSA program stands for Students As Life Style Activists and is all about students motivating students to improve their diet and increase physical activity.

  • The SALSA project is a partnership between Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD), University of Sydney and is supported by Mid North Coast Local Health District.
  • The peer education program gives students the techniques, skills and confidence to educate themselves and younger peers about the importance of healthy living.
  • SALSA uses evidence-based, innovative peer education to make students the drivers of both the teaching and learning process.
  • The program involves four lessons about food choices, physical activity, healthy lifestyle and individual and community action. A variety of strategies are used including videos, role-playing, games, quizzes and goal setting.

Coffs Harbour High School is the first school in the Mid North Coast to give SALSA a go. A small group of Year 8 students undertook the peer educator training in term 4, 2020.

We will provide updates once SALSA is rolled out.
